ASD DXF Tagging System

A purpose-built tagging system that made DXF production files easier to identify, organize, and move through a fabrication workflow.

The challenge

DXF files carry the geometry needed for fabrication, but filenames and disconnected handoffs do not always provide enough context for the people preparing and processing the work. ASD needed a consistent way to attach useful production information to those files.

My approach

I mapped the information operators needed at each handoff, then designed a focused tagging workflow around the existing DXF process. The goal was to add structure without forcing the team to abandon the file format and tools already central to production.

Before

Operators relied on filenames, memory, and manual cross-checking to understand the production context around DXF files.

Automation

The tagging workflow captures consistent metadata once and keeps that context connected to the file as it moves through fabrication.

Operational result

Files are easier to identify, downstream interpretation is reduced, and the existing production process gains structure without being replaced.
